“If I were Mayor” Contest

The Vale City Council is inviting local students to share their creative ideas about what they would do if they were mayor of Vale. The “If I Were Mayor…” Student Contest is held in partnership with the Oregon Mayors Association (OMA) and is open to all students who reside within the Vale School District boundaries and are enrolled in school or being home-schooled for the 2022-2023 school year.

Students can submit entries to Vale City Hall in one of three categories: a poster competition for grades 4-5, an essay or PowerPoint competition for grades 6-8, and a digital media presentation for high school students.
The winner of each category will receive $100 from the city and then be submitted into the statewide competition.
First place statewide winning students in each of the three categories will win $500.  These students will receive their prizes at the awards luncheon held during the Oregon Mayors Association’s Summer Conference in Hood River at the Best Western Plus, August 10-12, 2023. Winners will be contacted in June for travel arrangements.

Completed submissions must be received at Vale City Hall by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March  28th. A contest packet and entry form will be available to download on the City’s website a hardcopy version of the application packet can also be picked up in person at Vale City Hall.

All completed submissions will be reviewed at the City Council meeting, March 28, 2023. The Council will evaluate the entries based on creativity, clarity/sincerity of thought and subject relevancy.
