Job Announcement – Street Specialist

Position Title: Street Specialist
Department: Public Works – Street Department
Reports to: City Manager / Public Works Lead
Salary: $4,137.00 per month
Schedule: Full-time, salaried with excellent benefits
Location: Vale, Oregon


About the Position

The City of Vale is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Street Specialist. This role is vital to the City’s infrastructure, ensuring the safe and effective construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, alleys, levees, airport facilities, and related systems. The position also involves responding to emergencies, addressing public inquiries, and maintaining compliance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards for levee upkeep


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment (loaders, graders, etc.) to move gravel, dirt, and other materials.
  • Oversee and participate in the construction and maintenance of dirt, gravel, oil mat, and paved streets, sidewalks, curbs, catch basins, and signage.
  • Conduct sweeping, snow removal, sanding, and drainage system maintenance.
  • Maintain and operate airport facilities including runways, lighting, fencing, and grounds.
  • Provide supervision, scheduling, and training for assigned staff.
  • Respond to public inquiries, complaints, and emergencies.
  • Prepare annual inventories, budget reports, and project plans

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required (Trade School Diploma desirable).
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience in street or construction maintenance.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to obtain an Oregon Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements within six (6) months of hire

Additional Requirements

  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $4,137.00 per month.
