2024 OREGON MAYORS ASSOCIATION PRESENTS THE “IF I WERE MAYOR CONTEST”

The Vale City Mayor and City Council is inviting local students to share their creative ideas about what they would do if they were mayor of Vale. The “If I Were Mayor…” Student Contest is held in partnership with the Oregon Mayors Association (OMA) and is open to all students who reside within the Vale School District boundaries and are enrolled in school or being home-schooled for the 2023-2024 school year.

Students can submit entries in one of three categories:

  • Poster competition – grades 4-5,
  • Essay or PowerPoint – grades 6-8
  • Digital media presentation for high school students

See attached information pages below for details, rules and regulations.

Completed submissions must be received at Vale City Hall by 5 p.m. on Monday, March  25th, 2024.

All completed submissions will be reviewed at the City Council meeting, Tuesday March 26, 2024. City Council will evaluate the entries based on creativity, clarity/sincerity of thought and subject relevancy.

The winner of each category will receive $100 from the city. Winning materials are then submitted into the statewide competition.
First place statewide winning students in each of the three categories will win $500.  These students will receive their prizes at the awards luncheon held during the Oregon Mayors Association’s Summer Conference in Klamath Falls, Oregon, July 20, 2024. Winners will be contacted in June for travel arrangements.
